2016 Chili Cookoff

Jose Jalapeno’s Annual Chili Cookoff is set for Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 7 pm!

Rules are simple:
1) Chili entry fee is $5.
2) If you’re not bringing chili, just come to taste (no need to bring cash, except for the Super Bowl Squares*)
3) Taste and vote!

Anyone bringing a pot of chili needs to come up with a creative name for it to keep the judging as anonymous as possible. Create your own sign or we’ll have blank ones ready.

Voting: Using a voting card you will rank each chili on a scale from 5 (amazing) to 1 (bad). Once everyone has voted, I’ll average the scores for each chili and the two highest averages will split the pot 75/25.

I’ll have Super Bowl Squares for purchase as well. Cheers!!

The Varsity Chili Cookoff

The Varsity is having their first chili cookoff this Sunday, February 16, 2014.  Looks like maybe 8 or 9 entries, so I might have a chance to win this one.

I’m gonna be trying a new recipe, so I’ll be able to tell if it’s a keeper if it places high.  If it’s dead last then I won’t probably make it again.

It’s called:  Rob’s Secret Chili.  And it’s a secret.

Chili Cookoff – Fall or Winter?

I’m thinking of changing the date of the annual chili cookoff this year.

Usually we host it the Saturday between the NFL conference championship games and the Super Bowl.  That has worked for us most years, but sometimes the weather can be a real bitch.

This year I’m proposing early November:  after Halloween and before Thanksgiving.  Still good, chilly chili weather but near zero chance of snow or a blizzard.  Right now I’m thinking November 9th, with a backup date of November 16th.

I’ll post the date later this month!
